Are there any foods you eat everyday?

šŸŒ Pretty much every morning I eat a banana.Ā  I like them and they’re also good for acid reflux prevention, something I need to watch out for.

🄜 Brazil nuts are supposed to be good at supporting thyroid function.  You can eat too many though so I try to have just four.

“Brazil nuts are nutritional powerhouses providing healthy fats, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. They’re exceptionally high in selenium, a mineral with potent antioxidant properties that’s also good for thyroid, brain, and heart health.”

🟣 And then there’s prunes. They’re good for bone health. Read about it here. I try to eat six in the afternoon.

“A study, published in the October 2022 issue of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, found that eating five or six prunes a day helped women past menopause to preserve bone mineral density in their hips, which could translate to fewer bone breaks. The researchers, who tracked 235 older women for a year, speculated that the daily handful of prunes lowered inflammatory chemicals that contribute to bone breakdown.”

ā˜• Coffee has tremendous health benefits. And I love it.  The recommended number of cups is 3-5, best early in the day.  Read about it here. I used to drink that much but acid reflux is an issue with coffee consumption,  so I’m making do with two cups, one at home in the morning and one when I get to the office.

šŸ’Ŗ I also have a protein shake most days,  with creatine,  since aging bodies need more protein.

All this counting foods makes me smile. Here on the blog,  I wrote about life being too short to count almonds,  in a piece I wrote about about missing my feminist health food loving mother in law. See On counting almonds, searching for Devil’s Claw, and remembering Avis. Maybe it’s an age thing and we all end up counting foods as we age! I’m sorry for ever laughing Avis.

How about you? Are there foods you eat every day? Are there any you eat in specific amounts?

  1. This made me reflect on the fact that my answer is no. There is nothing I specifically eat every day. Matcha (mostly not latte) is as close as I come. And that’s not for my health. Just pleasure and comfort. Do I need to change this? Contemplating.

  2. My breakfast is my main focus. I wake up hungry & rush to eat. The rest of the day my eating varies a lot. But first thing: 8 different vegetables plus some seafood sauteed in sesame oil, soy sauce added (I exercise enough that I actually do need to add some salt to my diet), maybe a few red pepper flakes, served on brown rice. I make up a batch that will last for about 5 days & warm it up as soon as I am up. On the side, two or three types of fruit.

But I also have a way of finding ice cream most days…

  3. I eat a banana just about every day, have a nice big home-made latte in the morning and follow up with some other kind of fruit (mandarins/clementines are a favorite). Lately, I’ve been into having a fruit popsicle in the evening– it fully addresses my desire for a bit more sweetness.
