Put that pantsuit back on (reblogged from Feminist Philosophers)

Here’s me yesterday in my version of a white pantsuit:

I know this is a fitness blog but it’s also a feminist blog and Tracy and I are both too shocked and sad to write much today. Yes, we’re Canadians but the US election had us in its grips on us too. Here’s some strong words from Kate over the Feminist Philosophers blog.

  1. Thanks for posting this, Samantha, and thanks Kate for the wise and thoughtful words. I couldn’t agree more– let’s make it harder for agendas involving bigotry, misogyny, science denial and contempt for the rule of law to become the new normal. I just ate. Now I need a nap, and tomorrow the pantsuit comes back on.

  2. I voted for Jill Stein. I found both mainstream candidates lacking. I live in a county that votes solidly blue. For a local election, you might as well forget about running if you are a Republican. We are a highly educated community with a state university.
Since racism was mentioned in the post, my point in commenting here that racism is alive and well in the community I live in. Simply voting as a Democrat or being a feminist does not preclude one from being a racist.
People where I live might be a bit more sophisticated about how the express their racism but it is there…..especially in conversations about our public school and who is “allowed” to attend a certain school when we talk about drawing new boundaries.

  3. I had a hard time figuring out what to write today, but I did it because I feel the love and support pouring out from so many who are as disappointed as I am in the results of this election. I am not a religious person, but I am now “praying” for us all to find strength and peace for what’s to come.
