Saying goodbye to my sentimental socks

Tracy and I are playing the minimalism game.

Find a friend or family member. Someone who’s willing to get rid of some of their excess stuff. This month, each of you must get rid of one thing on the first day of the month. On the second, two things. Three items on the third. So forth, and so on. Anything can go! Clothes, furniture, electronics, tools, decorations, etc. Donate, sell, or trash. Whatever you do, each material possession must be out of your house—and out of your life—by midnight each day.

So far, just 4 days in, I’m concentrating on the contents of my cycling bureau. (Yes, I have an entire bureau devoted to cycling clothing and paraphernalia.) Yes, I have my good cycling gloves. But I probably don’t need 3 old pairs. One back up old pair is probably enough. So they went off to the home of a beginning cyclist. Hi Anita! I threw out some old cycling socks too.

I’m stuck though on stuff to which I’m sentimentally attached, like my first ever pair of cycling socks. They even say 2002 right on them! They’re too thin to actually ever use and they’re not particularly fancy looking. But for now, I’m hanging on to them.
