Hey Team,
In the midst of your habit-building and expansion practices, don’t forget to notice and celebrate what’s already good.
Yes, this is partially about noticing the good things that have already come out of your practice – even if it is being just that it is marginally easier to start your meditation sessions these days but it is also about remembering that you have pre-existing skills and habits that you rock at.
Since the nature of adding new practices involves looking ahead, we can sometimes get a bit too focused on ‘getting better’ and forget that we are already good.
You are not a fixer-upper.
You are not a project.
You are not a formless blob that was waiting until this moment to be shaped.
You are already good.
You already have lots of good practices, lots of skills, and you have a solid history of expanding yourself to meet your needs.
This current expansion is just adding to that history.
So, your new practice isn’t about starting from nothing, it’s about building on the existing foundation.
It’s about using the skills and practices you have in service of expanding your life further. (There’ll be more on using those skills and practices as tools in tomorrow’s post!)
So, Team, please take a few moments today to notice and firm up the foundation you are building on.
Make a mental list of things you are already good at – fitness and otherwise.
Notice the difference in your practices from three weeks ago and now.
Consider how your current practice is adding even more good things to your life.
And if you have been stuck in that ‘I’m a project’ mindset, please start to consider the possibility that I’m right and that you are already good, just as you are. Expanding your life is just about adding EXTRA goodness in there.
Here’s your gold star for your efforts today, no matter what those efforts look like.
Be kind to yourself, pretty please.
