Sick, sick, sick, and sick of it. Hack. Cough. Wheeze. Blerg.

I took my FitBit off this week in disgust. There is nothing good to report. I’m not moving much because when I move I start coughing. I’m also not sleeping particularly well, because coughing.

ARGH.

I’m trying to keep my spirits up. I’m vaguely happy that it’s snowing because I can’t do anything anyway.

This morning’s Facebook status update: “Okay, yes it’s snowing. But I’m still sick and can’t do much anyway. Highs in the teens over the weekend. High of 20 in the forecast for next week. The snow will melt. I will stop coughing. And I will ride my bike again.”

And yes, I’m doing all the things. Drinking hot tea with honey, eating soup, resting, I promise.

When you have a cold and lingering cough, what’s your preferred ‘feel better’ thing to do? Last time I was this sick I see it lasted a month. Yikes.

(Apparently I like to Google image search for “too sick to work out” and “missing my bike.”)

  1. In answer to your question about what is my preferred thing to do when I’m sick with cough, the answer is “very little”. Of course one gets stir crazy and also has demands on one. Barring the demands, small acts of puttering make me feel a little less like a human paperweight and also get me moving around (lying down too long feels very yucky too). Rearrange things. Scrutinize socks to see if some need tossing. Rearrange more things. Do light reading. Explore the world of various candies/breathmints/other slippery things as an alternative to cough drops (whose taste one comes to loathe over time). You will feel better. and you will ride bikes again.

  2. I drink all the hot things, eat spicy food and establish a nest on the couch. It keeps me propped up enough to get a bit of sleep and actually see the other humans in my house.
I typically watch really cheesy television like Supernatural.

  3. Not being able to work out while sick is torture! I just got over an upper respiratory infection and am glad to be back on the road finally (I’m a runner). Feel better soon!
