You can do it! You can do some of it? You can do enough of it?: On moderation and motivation

A Facebook friend put out a call the other day for encouragement. Send me all your motivational memes, she said.

They’re cute and all. In the right mood, they might even motivate me. But some days, bad days, they can just make me feel worse. It’s too much to ask. Laying in bed and hiding from the world feels fantastic, but only for a very short while.

  1. “Do, don’t stew” sums up your last paragraph nicely. It was an encouraging phrase from a friend’s mother about 10 years ago.
Today, I loved the cute animal pictures, and the insecure affirmations made me smile.

  2. I love those “insecure” affirmations and think of them more as moderate and realistic than insecure. Thanks for this.

    1. Right. Note I didn’t call them “insecure.” Their author did. I’m with you, at least some days. Other days I’m all DO ALL THE THINGS, LOVE YOURSELF, and GO GO GO!
