The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.
Here’s an excerpt:
The Louvre Museum has 8.5 million visitors per year. This blog was viewed about 350,000 times in 2013. If it were an exhibit at the Louvre Museum, it would take about 15 days for that many people to see it.

I’m not sure how to put this without sounding mean-spirited, but I find it a little telling that the “our blog in 2013 review” post focuses exclusively on stats but not on the direction the blog is going in or has been going in content-wise.
When I first started reading this blog it seemed much more willing to make posts that woudl start actual discussions; nowadays the posts seem to elicit more “right on!” types of comments. I have also noticed that the frequency of posts has increased, but the depth of them has also fallen a bit, especially in the “feminist” aspect.
I totally understand that this blog may have actively chosen and be happy with the direction it is going in. However, it also occurs to me that maybe if readers express an interest in a move back toward more complex, feminist, and thought-provoking posts, the blog mistresses might realize that they also want to make that move.
Happy 2014 and congrats on the success the blog found in 2013.

HI Sam and Tracy– I just got around to looking at your 2013 report. And because I’m a stats geek, I compared it to 2012. Congratulations! Wow, I hope you both are beaming with pride, as you have created a forum that is informative, fun, supportive and intellectually satisfying. You’ve obviously found a spot in cyberspace that captures people’s attention and meets a need.
Speaking for myself, I love being a part of an extended conversation that includes scholars, fitness experts and enthusiasts, feminists of many stripes, and men, too… 🙂 And thanks for opening your cyber-doors to those of us who did guest posts. I love writing for this blog and hope to do some more in 2014. And when I start my own blog (topics still percolating), it will be in part because I have seen from your example how it’s possible to be relevant, critical, sincere, intellectual and playful all in the same place.
For your 50th birthdays this year, maybe you can do a live webcast of some festivities, with people skyping in, or some other fun thing (y’all will know, as you are more techno-savvy than I am; or Sam can consult with her kids about the latest internet gew-gaw).
